Our essay questions are now available! Our application goes live in August, but it’s never too early to start crafting your essays. You’ll notice a continued focus on our Defining Principles (Question the status quo, Confidence without attitude, Students always, and Beyond yourself), with a few changes from last year.
We replaced our question about “greatest joy” with: “If you could choose one song that expresses who you are, what is it and why?” Why are we asking this question? It’s not a test. We hope your answer will reveal something about what makes you who you are. A piece of advice — your song doesn’t have to be a popular or well-known song, or even a song with lyrics — pick the song that has meaning for you and make sure we understand why. Last year a number of applicants over-thought the joy question instead of answering from the heart. This year, we’re trying something new.
For all of your essays, take time to reflect. What story are you telling us about yourself? Remember, we’re trying to get to know you. We really want to learn about what motivates you, what has shaped you, what you’ve learned about yourself. Be genuine. Answer the question. Essays that stand out allow us to hear your voice and understand where you’ve come from and where you want to go. Know your story….and don’t be afraid to dream big.
Here are a few ways you can learn more about our distinctive culture and Defining Principles:
- Meet us at one of our admissions events around the world this fall. Erin and I are headed to South America in August. We hope you’ll join us if you’re in Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Sao Paulo, or Rio. I’ll also be on the East Coast in September, and in Europe and Asia in October. Make sure to introduce yourself —I’d love to meet you!
- Visit us on campus. During the school year we offer student-led information sessions, lunch with current students, and class visits. The program is coordinated by the Haas Student Ambassadors (HSAs). Learn more about the HSA team!
- Join us for an online chat for prospective MBA students on August 7 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
Best wishes for a successful application! We look forward to getting to know you, and hope to meet you in person this fall.
